Dain Kund Trek: My Journey to the Singing Hills
I’ll be honest—when I first heard about Dain Kund trek during my Dalhousie trip, I almost skipped it. It was off the main Dalhousie-Khajjiar Road, and I was already running behind schedule. But something told me this diversion would be worth taking, and boy, was I right! The beautiful views of the Himalaya that unfolded before my eyes made every step worthwhile. The trek itself is relatively easy, and I managed to complete it in 2-3 hours since I was in a bit of a hurry and my fitness level was decent that day.
My Trek Highlights
The moment I turned off the Dalhousie-Khajjiar Road and headed toward the Air Force Station, I knew I was in for something special. There’s a certain thrill in approaching a restricted military area, knowing that adventure lies just beyond. I had to stop my vehicle at the gate—civilians aren’t allowed inside the Air Force Station—and that’s where my trek truly began.
As I walked up the slope through the gate, anticipation built with each step. The route was well-defined, and I felt reassured seeing the signboards along the way. They guided me steadily upward toward Mata Pohlani Temple. When I finally reached the top, the sight took my breath away. The temple stood serene against the backdrop of the mighty Himalaya, and the scenic views stretched endlessly before me. It was one of those moments when you realize why you travel—to feel small yet connected to something infinitely larger.
